MOBO BOARD: Mobo board is a device designed to help strengthen and stabilize the intrinsic muscles of the foot, while allowing the user to progressively train the foot with more challenging exercises. Designed by physical therapist Jay Dicharry who is well known as a thought leader in running rehabilitation, this board is a must for home programming.
In running and pelvic rehabilitation a lot of energy is used in core and leg strength and stability training. All of this is important and useful, however it gets us nowhere if we don't have strong and mobile feet! As Jay would say, "you wouldn't put a jet engine on a paper airplane!". This example highlights the importance of foot stability under dynamic circumstances as it is our first contact point to the ground during running and walking gait, and how we stabilize ourselves though our leg, hip, pelvis, low back, and beyond is dependent on our feet. Often after injury, pregnancy, or in daily life, if we don't put specific effort into strengthening our feet we are more susceptible to injury. The good news is that with daily practice we can train our foot and ankle for better support to propel us through life and progressively challenge the entire lower extremity chain by adding resistance and more complex movement patterns.
